What are group consultations?

A group consultation is a 90 minute face to face appointment compared to the usual 15 minute appointment run by a facilitator and a clinician. The consultation is run as a group session of no more than 12 people sharing the same medical condition, allowing you more time with the clinician to discuss any concerns. The group are then able to support each other and share ideas.

Why should I attend?

Patients get to spend longer with the clinician allowing them more time and the extra benefit of learning from others.

Some patients feel alone when trying to manage with a condition, being around other patients with the same condition can inspire lifestyle changes and make them feel less isolated.

Research shows that patients who attend group consultations achieve greater improvement in their weight management, blood pressure and blood sugar control compared with those who attend a traditional 1:1 appointment.

Who will be offered a group consultation?

We are currently running two groups HRT (Hormone replacement therapy) and Diabetic reviews.

All patients that are looking at starting HRT will be offered a group clinic to listen to all the options available to them.

Every patient that is type 2 Diabetic will be offered a group clinic as part of their annual review.

All information within the group is kept private and each patient is asked to sign a consent form before attending.
